Find your way around the dashboard
Three layers: the sidebar owns the account, the tabs own one chatbot, and drawers like Test Chatbot sit over both.

What it is
The dashboard is your signed-in home. It has three layers, and almost every "where is that setting?" question is really a question about which layer owns it:
- The sidebar — moves you between top-level areas of the whole account.
- The chatbot tabs — appear once you open a single chatbot, and everything on them applies to that chatbot only.
- Overlays — drawers and modals that slide in over whatever you are looking at. Test Chatbot is one of these, which is why it is not a tab.
Getting that split straight saves a lot of hunting: account-wide things live in the sidebar, per-chatbot things live in the tabs.
When you would use it
Read this when you feel lost after signing in, or when you know a setting exists and cannot find it.
Where to find it
Open Dashboard.
Layer 1 — the sidebar
| Item | What it owns |
|---|---|
| Dashboard | Account-wide numbers: volume, quality, recent activity. See Dashboard KPIs. |
| Chatbots | Every chatbot in this account, plus Create. This is where daily work starts. |
| Customers | People who have chatted, with their captured details. See Customers list. |
| Accounts | Switch between workspaces you belong to. See Switch accounts. |
| Settings | Account-level settings, with its own children (below). |
A credits meter sits in the sidebar. It shows the message credits remaining for the account you are currently acting in — not for you as a person. When it hits zero, chatbots stop answering. See Message credits and Out of credits.
Settings children
| Child | What it owns |
|---|---|
| Account | Your name, email, and the account danger zone. See Update profile. |
| Security | Password, Google linking, two-factor, sessions. See Sign-in options. |
| Members | Invitations and roles. See Invite and manage members. |
| Billing | Plan, credits, invoices. Owner only. See Billing is owner-only. |
| Appearance | Your dashboard theme, language, and timezone — not what visitors see. See Appearance, language and timezone. |
| Developer | API keys and the playground. Owner only. See Personal access tokens. |
Layer 2 — the chatbot tabs
Open Chatbots and click one. Seven tabs appear under its name:
| Tab | What it owns |
|---|---|
| Playground | The live widget exactly as visitors see it — chat with it in the Widget, Drawer or Full-page layout — quick jumps to the settings that shape it, and a warning if the chatbot is not activated. See The chatbot Playground tab. |
| Conversations | Every thread this chatbot has had, with filters and review flags. See The conversations list. |
| Analytics | Health, training status, KPIs, charts, and the Needs attention panel for this one chatbot. See The chatbot Analytics tab. |
| Knowledge | Files, pasted text, cloud imports, and crawls. See Knowledge overview. |
| Actions | Call actions the chatbot may run. See What are Call actions. |
| Integrations | Where visitors reach it — Messaging, Web widget, Plugins. See Channels overview. |
| Settings | Seven sections: General, Instructions, Appearance, Messages & language, AI configuration, Customer data, Danger zone. Instructions are the rules that shape replies — see Write instructions. |
The chatbot's Settings tab and the sidebar's Settings are completely different things. Chatbot Settings → Appearance changes what visitors see. Sidebar Settings → Appearance changes what you see. This catches almost everyone once.
Layer 3 — overlays
Some tools are drawers rather than pages, so you never lose your place:
- Test Chatbot — the private chat with your own chatbot. Open it with the Test Chatbot button in the chatbot header; it slides in over whichever tab you are on. It is not an eighth tab, and there is no page you can navigate to. See Try Test Chatbot.
- Embed drawers on Integrations → Web widget, which hold the copy-paste snippets.
- Confirmation modals for anything destructive.
Steps
- Scan the sidebar: Dashboard, Chatbots, Customers, Accounts, Settings.
- Expand Settings to see Account, Security, Members, Billing, Appearance, Developer.
- Open Chatbots and click one chatbot. Note the seven tabs.
- Press Ctrl/Cmd+K to open the top-bar search and jump straight to a chatbot or a command.
- Glance at the credits meter in the sidebar — it explains a surprising number of "the chatbot stopped answering" reports.
- Open Test Chatbot from the chatbot header to confirm you can find it without navigating away.
What you will see
Some sidebar entries disappear depending on who you are and which account you are acting in. Billing and Developer are hidden from anyone who is not the account owner, and they are also hidden while you are working inside a teammate's account. Hiding them is only cosmetic — the backend enforces the real permissions regardless of what the sidebar shows.
Members with view-only roles see the pages they can read and simply do not get the buttons they cannot use.
Limits and plan notes
The credits meter is account-wide for the owner whose account you are acting in, so switching accounts changes the number you see. Nothing about the dashboard chrome is plan-gated — plan limits show up as upgrade prompts on the specific feature, not as missing navigation.
Common problems
The sidebar looks different on my phone.
On small screens it collapses into a drawer behind the menu button. Everything is still there.
I switched accounts and all my chatbots vanished.
You are in a different workspace now. Each account has its own chatbots, conversations, and credits. Switch back from Accounts. See Team member cannot see chatbots if a teammate hits this.
I cannot find Billing or Developer.
They are owner-only, and hidden while you are acting inside someone else's account. Switch back to your own account from Accounts, or ask the owner.
Where is Test Chatbot?
In the chatbot header, on every chatbot tab. It is a drawer, not a page — there is no URL to bookmark for it.
Common questions
Where is Test Chatbot?
In the chatbot header, on every chatbot tab. It is a drawer rather than a page, so it opens over whatever you were looking at and there is no URL to bookmark.
Where are API keys?
Settings → Developer, visible to the account owner only. They are also hidden while you are acting inside someone else's account.
Why do Billing and Developer keep disappearing?
They are owner-only, and they are hidden while you work inside a teammate's account. Switch back to your own account from Accounts in the sidebar.
What is the difference between the two Appearance pages?
The chatbot's Settings → Appearance changes what visitors see. The sidebar's Settings → Appearance changes your own dashboard theme, language, and timezone.
