What it is
The hosted page is Agentency's own chat page for your chatbot, at /agent/{handle}. It is a complete, branded chat experience on a web address you can send to anybody.
Visitors do not sign in to Agentency and do not need an account. They open the link and talk.
It is the fastest way to put a chatbot in front of real people, and it is the one public surface available on every plan including Free. If you are not sure where to start, start here.
When you would use it
- A QR code on a poster, a table card, or a receipt.
- A link in your social media bio.
- An email signature.
- A support link in an order confirmation.
- Sharing with a colleague or client for feedback before you touch your website.
- Any situation where editing your website's theme is more effort than the task deserves.
Where to find it
Open Dashboard → Chatbots → your chatbot → Integrations → Messaging → Direct link.
Before you start
Three things must be true before the link works for anyone else:
- The chatbot is Active. A draft or paused chatbot returns a 404 to visitors, however well it works for you.
- Knowledge is trained. An active but untrained chatbot loads and politely explains it cannot answer yet — see The hosted page says the chatbot is not ready.
- You have tested it yourself in a private window. Your dashboard session hides both of the above.
Steps
- Open Dashboard → Chatbots → your chatbot → Playground and set the chatbot to Active.
- Go to Integrations → Messaging. Direct link is the first card and it is always visible, on every plan.
- Open the card and copy the
/agent/{handle}URL. - Optionally set who may open it — public, secret link, shared password, or named accounts. See Control who can open the hosted page.
- Open the URL yourself in a private browsing window.
- Ask a real question. You should land on a session URL as the conversation starts.
- Find that conversation under Conversations. Its channel is the direct link, not the website widget.
- Now share it.
What you will see
Direct link is the first card on Integrations → Messaging. The drawer shows the full URL, a copy button, and the access options.
Opening the URL as a visitor gives a full-page chat carrying your chatbot's name, avatar, and colours. Once a conversation starts, the address gains a session identifier — that is normal, and it is how the visitor's own conversation is kept separate from everyone else's.
Making the link presentable
The default URL contains the chatbot's numeric id. It works, but /agent/47 is not something you want printed on a poster.
Set a handle — a short readable slug — and the URL becomes /agent/your-brand. That is worth doing before you print anything or record it in a video. See Change the hosted page handle.
One caution about print: renaming the handle breaks the old URL. If you expect to rebrand, either settle the handle before you print, or accept a reprint later. Old /bot/{id} links keep redirecting, but an old handle does not.
Where it fits among your options
| Surface | Needs | Plan |
|---|---|---|
| Hosted page | A URL and an active chatbot | Every plan, including Free |
| Website widget | A script on your site plus an allowed-domain list | Paid |
| Messaging apps | A connected channel | Paid, availability varies |
The hosted page and the widget draw on the same knowledge, the same instructions, and the same message credits. They differ in how the chatbot is identified and how access is controlled. See Hosted page vs website widget.
There is no reason to choose only one. Many people share the link on day one and add the widget a week later once the answers are good.
Limits and plan notes
- Draft or inactive chatbots return 404. This is deliberate: an unfinished chatbot should not be reachable.
- An active but untrained chatbot loads and explains itself rather than 404ing.
- The direct link is not plan-gated. Free keeps it; Free locks the website script and the plugin integrations.
- Conversations here spend message credits like any other channel. See How message credits work.
- Public message caps apply, so a link that suddenly goes viral is bounded rather than unlimited.
- Access control is optional and off by default. Anyone with the URL can chat until you say otherwise.
Common problems
The link shows a 404.
The chatbot is not active. Activate it on the Playground tab. See The hosted page is 404.
It works for me and 404s for everyone else.
You are signed in and they are not. Always test in a private window — that is the only view that matches a visitor's.
I am on Free and thought I had no public chat.
You have this link. Free locks the website script and the plugin integrations, not the hosted page.
The chatbot loads but says it cannot answer yet.
Active but untrained. Add knowledge and wait for training to finish.
I shared the link and now anyone can use it.
That is the default. Add a gate — see Control who can open the hosted page.
Conversations from the link are not in my list.
Check the channel filter on the Conversations page, and confirm you are on the same chatbot and the same workspace.
Can I embed this page in my own site?
Yes, in an iframe — useful when a site builder will not let you add a script. See Iframe embed and direct link.
Common questions
Do visitors need an Agentency account?
No. They open the link and talk. They never sign in to Agentency, and no account is created for them.
Is the hosted link really available on Free?
Yes. Free locks the website script and the plugin integrations, not this link. It is the one public surface every plan gets.
It works for me but 404s for everyone else. Why?
You are signed in and they are not, which hides an inactive chatbot from you. Always test the link in a private browsing window.
Do conversations from the link cost credits?
Yes, exactly like any other channel. Public message caps also apply, so a link that goes viral is bounded rather than unlimited.
Can I put this page inside my own website?
Yes, in an iframe — useful when a site builder will not let you add a script. That embeds the hosted page, not the widget.

Change the hosted page handle
Swap the numeric id in your link for a readable slug of 3 to 40 characters. The old handle stops working immediately.
Control who can open the hosted page
Four modes — public, secret link, shared password, or named accounts — plus one toggle that decides whether any of them apply.
Hosted page vs website widget
Same knowledge, same credits, same conversations — different identification, different access control, different plans.
The hosted page says the chatbot is not ready
An active chatbot with no completed training loads and explains itself instead of answering. That is a state, not a fault.
