Delete a chatbot

Permanently remove a chatbot and everything attached to it. There is no recycle bin — pausing is the reversible option.

What it is

Deleting a chatbot permanently removes it and everything attached to it: its knowledge, its conversations, its captured customers, its channel connections, and its widget token. There is no recycle bin and no undo. The dashboard cannot restore a deleted chatbot, and neither can support.

If what you actually want is "make it stop answering visitors", you want Deactivate, not Delete. Deactivating keeps every byte and can be reversed in one click — see Activate or pause a chatbot.

When you would use it

  • It was a test chatbot and you are done with it.
  • You are at your plan's chatbot limit and need the slot for something real.
  • A project ended and you genuinely want the conversation data gone.

Where to find it

Open Dashboard → Chatbots → your chatbot → Settings → Danger zone (?tab=danger).

Before you delete: a two-minute checklist

Do these first, because afterwards is too late.

  • Confirm you are in the right chatbot. Read the name in the header, not the one you have in your head. Deleting the wrong chatbot is by far the most common way this goes wrong.
  • Confirm you are in the right account. Check the Accounts entry in the sidebar if you belong to more than one workspace.
  • Save anything you need from Conversations. There is no bulk transcript export, so anything you want to keep has to be copied out of the transcript by hand now. See Export and privacy.
  • Keep your source documents. Knowledge goes with the chatbot; if you only ever had a PDF here and not on your own drive, download or re-locate it first.
  • Note anything published. Remove the widget snippet from your site and retire the shared link, or visitors will hit a dead page.
  • Check the customers. Captured leads attached to this chatbot go too. Look at Customers first — see Export customers.
  • Ask whether pausing would do. If there is any doubt, deactivate and revisit in a week.

Steps

  1. Open the chatbot you intend to delete. Check the name twice.
  2. Go to Settings → Danger zone.
  3. The tab has two cards: Status (activate/deactivate) at the top, and the red delete card below it.
  4. Select Delete Chatbot.
  5. Confirm in the dialog.
  6. You are returned to the Chatbots list and the chatbot is gone.

The same delete action is also available from the chatbot menu next to the tabs, with the same confirmation.

What gets removed

Removed with the chatbotNot affected
Knowledge sources and their trainingYour account and login
Every conversation and transcriptOther chatbots in the same account
Customers and leads captured by this chatbotYour plan, credits already purchased, and invoices
Instructions and Call actionsYour team members and their roles
Channel connections, widget token, allowed domainsFiles you kept on your own computer

Deleting a chatbot frees a slot on your plan (Free 1, Starter 2, Standard 5, Pro 10, Agency 30), so you can immediately create a replacement. It does not refund message credits that have already been spent, and it does not change your subscription.

Deleting a chatbot vs. deleting your account

Two completely different buttons in two different places:

  • Delete Chatbot — this page. Removes one chatbot. Your account, your other chatbots, and your billing all continue.
  • Delete your account — sidebar Settings → Account → Danger zone. Removes the whole workspace, every chatbot in it, and ends your relationship with the product. It has a grace period. See Delete your account.

What you will see

The Danger zone tab shows the status card first and the red delete card second, so a quick pause is always the nearer option. The delete card explains that the action is permanent, and the confirmation dialog asks you to commit deliberately rather than on a single stray click.

Limits and plan notes

You need permission to delete chatbots. Editors do not have it — Admins and the account owner do. Viewers cannot see the control at all. See Roles and permissions.

Common problems

There is no Delete Chatbot button.

Your role cannot delete chatbots. Editors can create and edit but not delete; ask an admin or the account owner.

I deleted the wrong chatbot.

It cannot be recovered from the dashboard. Recreate the chatbot, re-upload your sources, and re-publish. This is why the checklist above starts with reading the name in the header.

I deleted a chatbot and my site still shows a chat bubble.

The snippet is still on your pages; it just no longer has a chatbot behind it. Remove the <script> tag from your site, or point it at a different chatbot's snippet. See Embed the website widget.

Do the conversations survive for reporting?

No. They are removed with the chatbot, and account-wide analytics no longer include them. If you need the history, capture it before you delete.

I deleted a chatbot but my plan still says I am at the limit.

Reload the Chatbots page. If it persists, confirm you are looking at the right account — limits are per account, and you may have deleted a chatbot in a different workspace. See Chatbot and knowledge limits.

Common questions

Will this delete my whole Agentency account?

No. That is a different button under the sidebar's Settings → Account → Danger zone. This removes one chatbot and leaves your account, plan, and other chatbots intact.

Do conversations survive for reporting?

No. Conversations, captured customers, knowledge, and channel connections all go with the chatbot, and account-wide analytics no longer include them.

Why can't I see the delete button?

Editors cannot delete chatbots — only Admins and the account owner can. Viewers do not see the control at all.

Does deleting free a slot on my plan?

Yes, immediately, so you can create a replacement. It does not refund credits already spent and does not change your subscription.

I deleted the wrong chatbot. Can support restore it?

No. There is no recycle bin and no undo. Recreate the chatbot and re-upload its sources.
