Change your name or email

Your display name is editable in seconds. Your sign-in email is read-only — here is what to do when it is wrong.

What it is

Two fields sit next to each other on the Account page and behave completely differently.

Your display name is a label. Change it whenever you like; it affects nothing but what people see.

Your email address is your identity. It is how you sign in, where password resets go, and how invitations find you. It is shown on the Account page as read-only, and Agentency has no self-service form for changing it.

This page explains both, and gives you the realistic options if the address itself is wrong.

When you would use it

  • Your name changed, or it was entered wrong at signup.
  • You want to know why the email field will not accept typing.
  • You signed up with the wrong address and need a way out.
  • You are moving from a personal address to a work one.

Where to find it

Open Dashboard → Settings → Account.

Steps — changing your name

  1. Open Dashboard → Settings → Account.
  2. Wait for the card to load with your real details.
  3. Edit the display name field.
  4. Save. The top bar updates immediately.

That is the whole flow. Your name is not a credential: changing it cannot lock you out, cannot break an invitation, and does not require you to sign in again.

Steps — when the email is wrong

There is no button for this, so the honest answer is a decision tree rather than a procedure.

  1. Confirm which address you actually have. Read the email field on Settings → Account. That is the one you sign in with, whatever you may believe.
  2. If you signed in with Google, the address is owned by that Google account. Agentency will not diverge from it. Changing the address means either changing it in Google, or using a different Google account — which creates a different Agentency login. See Sign in with Google.
  3. If you used email and password, and the address is simply wrong or unreachable, create a new Agentency account on the correct address.
  4. Move your access, not your data. From the workspace you care about, invite the new address as a member and give it the role it needs. See Invite and manage members.
  5. Retire the old login. Stop using it. Do not delete the account if it owns a workspace — deleting the owner takes the workspace with it. See Delete your account.

What you will see

The name field is an ordinary text input. The email is displayed in what looks like a field but does not accept edits — no cursor, no save, nothing recorded if you try.

Below the profile card is the Danger zone. That is account deletion, not email change; they are unrelated.

Why there is no email-change form

Changing a sign-in address is not a text edit. Done properly it requires proving you control the new mailbox, keeping the old one valid until you do, deciding what happens to pending invitations addressed to the old address, and making sure a stolen session cannot quietly move an account to an attacker's inbox.

Rather than ship a half-version of that, Agentency does not offer it at all. The read-only field is being honest with you: this address is fixed for the life of the login.

The important caveat before you make a second account

If your current login owns a workspace — with chatbots, knowledge, conversations, and a subscription — making a new account does not move any of that. The new login starts empty, on Free.

Inviting the new address into the old workspace gives it access, but the old login remains the owner, and ownership carries billing and the ability to delete everything. Practically this means:

  • Keep the old login alive and usable. Do not delete it.
  • Make sure you can still receive mail at the old address, or at least still know the password.
  • If the old address is genuinely dead and it owns a paying workspace, contact support rather than improvising. See Contact Support.

If the old login is only a member of someone else's workspace, none of this applies. Have the owner invite your new address and remove the old member. Nothing is lost.

Limits and plan notes

  • Display name changes are free, unlimited, and available on every plan.
  • The email field is read-only for every user including owners. A workspace owner cannot rewrite a member's sign-in address.
  • A new account starts on Free: 50 message credits, 1 chatbot, 400 KB of knowledge, 1 seat.
  • Your address is per login, not per workspace. Belonging to five workspaces does not give you five addresses.

Common problems

I typed a new email and it bounced back to the old one.

The field is read-only. Nothing you type in it is saved.

Will changing my name break sign-in?

No. You sign in with your email address or with Google. The display name is not a credential.

Can a teammate change my email or name?

No. Profile details belong to the person. Workspace owners control roles and access, not identities.

I now have two accounts and my chatbots are in the wrong one.

Chatbots do not move between accounts. Use Switch accounts to work in the one that has them, and invite your other address in as a member so you can reach it from either login.

My email has a typo and I never verified it.

Then verification will never arrive, because the message is going somewhere you cannot read. Create the account on the correct address. See Verify your email.

Common questions

Will changing my name break sign-in?

No. You sign in with your email address or with Google. The display name is a label and is not a credential.

Why is there no email-change form?

Moving a sign-in address safely means proving you control the new mailbox and handling pending invitations. Rather than ship half of that, Agentency does not offer it.

What do I do if I signed up with the wrong address?

Create a new account on the correct address, then invite it into the workspace you care about. Do not delete the old login if it owns the workspace.

Can a workspace owner change a member's email?

No. Owners control roles and access, never someone else's sign-in identity. The field is read-only for everyone.
