Leave or remove a member

Remove someone from Settings → Members, or leave a workspace from Accounts. The owner can do neither.

What it is

Two different endings to the same relationship.

Removing is what the owner (or a member who is allowed to manage members) does to somebody else: their access to this workspace stops immediately.

Leaving is what a member does to themselves: they step out of a workspace they were invited into.

Either way, only the membership disappears. The person keeps their Agentency login, their profile, and any workspace they own themselves. Nothing they created inside your workspace is deleted — the chatbots, knowledge, and conversations belong to the workspace, not to whoever happened to click Create.

The owner is a special case: they can neither be removed nor leave, because they are the workspace.

When you would use it

  • A contractor's engagement ends.
  • Someone changes job and no longer needs access.
  • You were invited into a client's workspace, the project finished, and you want it off your Accounts list.
  • You are freeing a seat so you can invite somebody else.
  • Access needs to end today for a security reason.

Where to find it

To remove somebody: open Dashboard → Settings → Members in the workspace you mean, find their row, and use Remove member.

To leave a workspace: open Dashboard → Accounts, find the workspace under Accounts I joined, and use Leave.

Note that these are two different pages. You cannot remove yourself from the Members table, and you cannot remove somebody else from the Accounts page.

Steps

Removing a member

  1. Open Dashboard → Settings → Members. Check the sidebar first — an Acting in {account} line means you are in somebody else's workspace, not your own.
  2. Find their row in the Members table.
  3. Select Remove member. A confirmation appears explaining that they will immediately lose access to this account and that their own account is not affected.
  4. Confirm. The row disappears and the seat is freed at once.
  5. If you also want their historical actions reviewed, do that before removing — it is easier while their name is still on the member list.

Revoking an invitation that was never accepted

  1. Open Dashboard → Settings → Members and look under Pending invitations.
  2. Select Revoke invitation on the row.
  3. Confirm. The emailed link stops working immediately and the seat is freed.

An invitation is revoked, not removed. It never became a membership, so there is nothing to remove.

Leaving a workspace yourself

  1. Open Dashboard → Accounts.
  2. Find the workspace under Accounts I joined.
  3. Select Leave. The confirmation warns that you will lose access to that workspace and everything in it, and reminds you that the owner can invite you again later.
  4. Confirm. The workspace disappears from your list and you are back in your own.

What you will see

The Members table lists people who currently belong to the workspace. The owner is not in it — there is no owner row to remove.

Pending invitations is a separate list with its own actions, Re-send invitation and Revoke invitation.

On the Accounts page, only workspaces under Accounts I joined have a Leave action. Your own account does not, and that is not a bug.

Who is allowed to remove whom

Acting asMay remove
OwnerAny member, including admins
Admin (or a custom role that manages members)Editors, viewers, and custom members — but not another admin, and not themselves
Editor, ViewerNobody

An admin who wants to step down leaves from the Accounts page rather than removing themselves from the Members table.

What happens to their work

Nothing is deleted. Everything they built stays exactly where it is:

  • Chatbots, knowledge sources, and collections stay in the workspace.
  • Conversations and customer records stay.
  • Channels and widget settings they configured keep working.
  • Their name may still appear in historical records of who did what. That is an audit trail and it is meant to survive.

What ends is access. Their next request into your workspace fails, and the workspace vanishes from their Accounts list.

Getting the seat back

A removed member frees their seat immediately, and so does a revoked invitation. If you were blocked at your seat cap, you can invite the replacement straight away.

Re-inviting somebody later starts from scratch: a new invitation, a new email, and the same seat cost. There is no "reactivate" shortcut, and their previous role is not remembered — set it again when you invite them. See Seats and billing for teams.

Limits and plan notes

  • The owner cannot be removed and has no Leave action anywhere in the product.
  • Removing a member never touches a workspace they own themselves, and never deletes their login.
  • Removal is not reversible in the sense of "undo" — but it is cheap to fix. Invite them again.
  • Leaving a workspace does not delete anything you contributed while you were there.
  • Closing your own workspace entirely is a different action with its own safeguards. See Delete your account.

Common problems

Remove is missing on an Admin.

Only the owner can manage admins. If you are an admin yourself, ask the owner.

I removed them but they say they can still see the workspace.

They are looking at a page loaded before the removal. Their next action will fail and the app returns them to their own workspace. Ask them to refresh, or simply wait — nothing they do from that stale screen will reach your data.

There is no Leave button on my own account.

Correct. You own it. Leaving would leave the workspace without an owner, its subscription unpaid, and its customer records unattended. If you want it gone, use Delete your account instead — that path has a recovery window and clear warnings.

Can the owner leave and keep the chatbots?

No. The owner has no leave action. If somebody else should own the workspace, contact support and describe the situation rather than trying to rebuild it by hand.

Does removing somebody delete their login?

No. It ends one membership. They keep their email address, password, profile, and any workspace of their own.

Does removing somebody delete the chatbots they built?

No. Everything belongs to the workspace. Their name coming off the member list changes nothing about the content.

I left by accident.

Ask the owner to invite you again. Your role is not remembered, so tell them which one you had.

Somebody left before finishing a handover.

Their work is all still there — you just cannot ask them about it inside the product. Conversations, knowledge, and customer records are all readable by anyone with the right role. See Invite and manage members to bring in whoever picks the work up.

Common questions

Does removing a member delete their login?

No. It ends one membership. They keep their email address, password, profile, and any workspace they own themselves — nothing outside your workspace is touched.

What happens to the chatbots and knowledge they built?

Everything stays. Content belongs to the workspace, not to whoever clicked Create, so removing a person changes access only. Their name may remain in historical records, which is intended.

Can the owner leave and keep the chatbots?

No. The owner has no leave action anywhere, because the owner is the workspace. To close it down entirely, use the account deletion flow, which has its own recovery window.

Why can I not remove another Admin?

Two admins are peers by design, so neither can lock the other out. Only the account owner can remove or edit an admin.

I removed someone by mistake. Can I undo it?

There is no undo, but the fix is cheap: invite them again. Their previous role is not remembered, so set the role and chatbot access again when you do.
